FAQ
We feed our kittens cooked chicken and turkey, Royal Canin and Fancy Feast wet canned foods, and Royal Canin and Science Diet dry food. We mix our Royal Canin and Science Diet dry food, for better flavor, and feed the kittens three times a day.
Our MC kittens love to play with the tubes that they can crawl into, and also like their fresh cat- nipped filled fish and birds. You can purchase little mice and birds, with Velcro closures, to put in fresh catnip. There is a tweeting bird that is one of their favorites, and the round tray with golf balls is a hit, too.
We keep all our Maine Coon cats inside, and do not allow them to play outdoors, or even go outside. Maine Coons are known to be mousers, so if there is an outdoor environment that is well- suited to your cat, free from danger of other animals and/or diseases, then, of course, the decision is up to each owner.
No, we have Tiles that are on collars, that are GPS tracking devices. That way, when there are visitors, or any chance that the cats could get outdoors, the Tile collars are put on for safety.
No, that is not recommended for a variety of reasons. The cats will seek out their own beds, or resting spots, in the home, where they sleep every night. My Kings like to sleep on the top of the cat towers!
Absolutely not! There are a lot of foods that cats cannot have, and the easiest way to be sure they don’t eat something that is not good for them, is to only give them the food that they are used to eating regularly.
Yes, the MC cats need to be brushed and combed on a regular basis. Some of them develop cat hair burrs, that can be removed, by applying virgin coconut oil, and using a comb to slowly pull the burrs out. There is a good You-Tube video by a vet that describes in detail how to do this. Some cats need to go to the groomers, if you cannot get the burrs out using this method.
Maine Coon cats are known as the “gentle giants”, because they grow up to weight between 12-25 pounds, with a height of 10-16 inches. They continue growing until they are 18-24 months old.
Yes, they can learn to play fetch with a ball, just like a dog! The Maine Coon is a highly intelligent cat, and are fun to play with, and are capable of learning a variety of tricks. My granddaughter sits with Jack, one of our Kings, and plays with his golf ball round game, and he will hit the ball back to her.
Yes, I mix the Temptations treats with the Greenie treats, for their teeth, and use them to train the cats. They get their treats a couple times a day.
Yes, but only to registered TICA or CFA catteries, outside of the State of Ohio. Please contact me for information of the cost for breeding rights for the kittens.
The kittens are all weaned off their mother’s milk when they are 6 weeks old.
The kittens are given the dewormed treatment at 4, 6, and 8 weeks of age.
Yes, Queen Sahara was tested, and showed negative for 140 infectious diseases.
Yes, They are tested for HCM, and other genetic and infectious diseases.
Yes, the kittens begin using their litter in small boxes, and then graduate to the normal sized litter box, before they are adopted.
Yes, they have been raised using the scratch pads on cat trees. We like the trees that have the cat scratchers that are wrapped in jute, and also the cardboard ones that you can replace. Be aware that the cardboard scratchers can get a bit messy. However, both of them allow the cats to scratch something other than your furniture!
